Confidence and intuition can be powerful parts of personal freedom. But what does it really mean to liberate yourself? For me, part of that freedom is having the confidence to trust yourself, to listen when something inside you speaks, recognise what feels right or wrong for you, express what you need and allow your own voice to have a place in your life.
When Did You Stop Trusting Yourself?
Many of us have become so accustomed to questioning ourselves that we don’t even realise we’re doing it.
- Maybe I’m overreacting.
- What if I’m wrong?
- I don’t want to upset anyone.
- Perhaps I should just keep quiet.
- What will they think of me?
You may sense that something isn’t right but convince yourself to ignore it. You may want to say no, but say yes because you don’t want to disappoint someone. You may have an opinion in a meeting but remain silent because you’re afraid it won’t be valued. Or you may know what you want from your life but continually look to other people for reassurance before trusting yourself.
Over time, other people’s opinions can become louder than your own. And that’s where confidence and intuition become so important.
Your Intuition Is Your Inner Guidance
Intuition is sometimes described as a gut feeling, that inner sense that appears before you’ve consciously analysed everything.
It doesn’t mean that every feeling is automatically correct, nor should intuition replace facts, careful thinking or professional advice when those are needed.
Instead, think of intuition as information worth noticing. The important question becomes:
Do you trust yourself enough to listen to it?
When confidence is low, you may dismiss what you feel immediately. When you develop greater self-trust, you can become curious about that inner guidance rather than automatically overriding it.

Confidence Gives Your Inner Voice Somewhere to Go
It’s one thing to recognise what you feel. It’s another thing entirely to have the confidence to express it. You may know:
- I don’t agree.
- I don’t want this.
- This doesn’t feel right for me.
- I need something different.
- I have something valuable to contribute.
But if you’re afraid of rejection, criticism, conflict or disappointing someone, those words can remain trapped inside you.
Real confidence isn’t necessarily about becoming louder. It’s about becoming more authentically you.
It’s being able to say what you think calmly. To establish boundaries without feeling that you have to apologise for having them. To contribute your ideas. To make decisions. To ask questions. To disagree respectfully. And sometimes, confidently say no.
Liberation Can Begin With Trusting Yourself
Personal liberation doesn’t always arrive through one enormous life-changing decision. Sometimes it begins quietly. It begins when you stop doubting yourself. It will also stop when you stop making yourself smaller to keep everyone else comfortable. Pratise making your voice as important to you, as everyone else’s.
When you listen to your inner guidance you recognise your own worth which will develop greater self-love.
This is one of the areas where life coaching can be incredibly powerful. By exploring the deeper patterns that may have affected your confidence, self-belief and ability to trust yourself, you can begin developing a healthier relationship with your own thoughts, feelings, intuition and voice.
Imagine having the confidence to express yourself authentically, make decisions with greater self-trust, establish healthier boundaries and allow yourself to be heard, seen and understood.
