Confidence: How to Find Your Voice and Stop Feeling Like You’re Not Enough

Confidence can feel like the one thing standing between you and the life you know you are capable of living. When confidence is low, it often feels like you are not enough. The thoughts are there, the emotions are there, and the words are there, yet when you try to express yourself, they come out differently than you intended.

You may watch others confidently share their ideas in meetings while you remain quiet.  You see or are aware of the missed opportunities.  With greater confidence, you could have demonstrated your value and shown what you are truly capable of.

What makes this even more challenging is that many people around you may not fully understand what you are experiencing. From the outside, it can look like you simply need to “speak up more” or “be more confident.” Yet internally, it feels far more complex.

I know this experience personally. The words used to be there, and I knew exactly what I wanted to say.  However, when I spoke the words often came out the wrong way or not at all. Because I was afraid of hurting others, I would hold back my true thoughts and emotions. Ironically, this often meant I ended up hurting myself instead. Sometimes the words would come out with anger, irritation, or frustration rather than clarity. I was afraid to offend people and feared the consequences of doing so. Yet the more I tried to suppress those fears, the more the situation seemed to repeat itself, just as the saying goes, the more you resist, the more it persists.

Through the coaching techniques I later discovered that confidence is rarely about simply “trying harder” or “being more assertive.” Real confidence often emerges when we uncover and address the deeper root causes behind our patterns.

When I began working with these deeper layers, my confidence transformed in ways I never expected. I found myself able to express my thoughts authentically and calmly, without fears. Today, I use these same techniques to help many clients develop their confidence.  They can express themselves clearly, authentically, and in a way that opens new possibilities in their lives.

Academic research shows that people who speak up at work are perceived as more confident and competent, which increases their professional status and opportunities. Find more details on research findings by clicking here.
